In 1539, the Reformation was finally introduced in Leipzig by Luther and Justus Jonas. In 1650, the incoming newspapers appeared six times a week for the first time. This makes it the oldest daily newspaper in the world. Leipzig was in the Margraviate of Meissen, which became part of the Electorate of Saxony in 1439. The University of Leipzig was founded on December 2nd, 1409 as -Alma Mater Lipsiensis- and is one of the three oldest universities in Germany.
